iPad offline storage expand
I'm looking to expand the storage of my iPad to be able to download more maps for offline use during a long offroad trip. I need to download whole Iceland maps. At zoom 16 (1:12000), it's 3659k tiles and 75 Gb.
I wonder if using external wireless storage like "Seagate Wireless Mobile SSD Hard Drive" or "RAVPower Filehub NAS" to read SD card could be an option. Does anybody already test this with Gaia GPS for iPhone/iPad? Could somebody confirm that it works to store offline maps with ability for the Gaia App to work with it?
Thank you for your support!

Thanks Ashli,
To get full Iceland in 10 Gb, with Gaia Topo, zoom is only 1:48000, which is not enough for my project. I need a zoom level of about 1:15000, thus I'm gonna use OpenHikingMap. Here is a printscreen of my iPad showing zoom level and file size.
Is it a way to get Gaia Top at higher zoom level than 1:48000 ?
Thanks

Claude,
Since Gaia Topo is a vector map, we were able to pack all data for it into the max zoom level of 14, meaning that your map download should have the detail you're looking for.
Specifically, the zoom 14 tiles include zoom levels 4x higher, so technically it is better than 1:15k.
You could test out a map download for a small area to see if it's the right map for you.

That resolution indicator is wrong on this map because of the extra data getting packed into the lower zoom tiles. You could test it out to see what I mean.
Maps in Gaia GPS are not stored in a transferable format, and after discussing with the team, I don't think that you'd be able to use an external storage option for your maps.
