Support for GeoPDFs
PlannedThis looks to be a popular feature request based on similar posts from ~8 months ago. So here's a "fresh request".
Wouldn't it be a wonderful "value-add" feature to be able to import GeoPDF's for use offline? I wouldn't even care about basemap layer/tiles - just show me where I am on the PDF map, let me record tracks and waypoints. The current method for doing this in GaiaGPS is not what I would describe as "simple" (ie, create tiles, web-hosted, etc) - especially for the SAR, Firefighters, weekend-warriors such as myself.
A competitor product does this wonderfully (Av**za) - but they've gone to a subscription model - pushing us recreational users away from their platform. I assume their commercial/enterprise customers are keeping the lights on. (I've used their "3 free imports" long ago - before subscription model)
Hopefully this feature for GaiaGPS is quietly being developed in the background. If so...an ETA would be great. If this is NOT a feature that will be developed anytime soon - this would be good to know as well.
Cheers,
Dean

As I understand it, Avenza's widely used app does require a subscription in order to use it professionally but it is free for non-commercial consumer use. Use of the free version already allows import of geopdfs but as one of the earlier posters mentioned, it is limited to 3 maps at a time unless you upgrade to their mid-level version for consumers which removes the 3 map limit. I had been staying with the free version and simply swapped maps in and out to stay within 3 but I have recently switched to the $29.99 Plus version so now I can have dozens of my own maps. While it is a little more expensive than my GaiaGPS membership (yes, I do have both), it offers a lot of great functionality.

iamthelizardking - you are correct about the subscription models for AvenzaPDF. I also use the free version of Avenza. The reason for my feature request here (and many other requests like mine) is to have the ability to get away from having to use two applications. Having it all here in Gaia will be awesome, and as you read above - it's coming!

I'm been using a maps app on iOS to manage georeferenced PDF maps for a long time. I think it's probably similar to Avenza, but it doesn't use a subscription model. It's called Maplets. You can find it at www.mobilemaplets.com. Not a perfect solution, but at least a workable solution until the feature is implemented in GaiaGPS.

They just commented on a different thread that it should be finished in the first half of this year.

The correct answer is clearly "never". It's been a standing request with lots of support by customers for years. Despite periodic announcements that it will be finished in the near future, it never is. It's clearly not a high priority. I'm sure they have lots of other things to do that are more important within the framework of their business model. My advice: don't hold your breath, and if geo-referenced pdfs are important to your work right now, find a different solution.

Dear Gaia, really not cool to state that a feature is coming two years ago and not provide any update after such a delay. Really love the app and would love to have this feature (would allow me to cancel my Avenza subscription) - either way it would be nice to know whether this feature is still in the roadmap for Gaia or not.

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to pop in with an update. Adding GeoPDF imports is something we are still excited about adding - while this is on the roadmap, the timeline has changed and is behind the originally predicted release date.
At this time, we are refraining from giving another ETA on this project.
Thank you everyone for your patience and feedback on different ways to improve the app.
