    Hi Bill,

    Could you send me a link to the spot on gaiagps.com/map where you are crossing the road? Or you could send me coordinates for the location.

    I'll check it out and see if I can find out what's happening.

    Every now and then I encounter a situation where a point in the route I am creating will not snap to a road or trail. I am sure it has to do with an error in the map data. To avoid having GAIA make me drive 100 miles out of the way, I locate the trouble spot by trial and error.

    I edit the route, dragging the endpoint along the trail and seeing if it will snap to it. At a certain point, it will lose its composure and convert that last part of the route to a straight line.

    To fix it, I move that route point back a little way, where i snaps to the trail, and end the route there, calling it RT XXXX 01.

    Then I started a new RT XXXX 02 a little past the "digital roadblock". It is a little bit of a PITA but it gets you where you want to go.

    Sometimes "snapping to" works better on different maps. Try using a the very excellent 2016 National Forest maps or Google Hybrid. Routing on your trail may work more reliably.

    So, in your situation, end your route a little way short of the crossroad, and make a second one starting on the other side of it.

    Good luck.

    @spokanister

    The Snap-to-Trail feature runs off crowd-sourced OpenStreetMap (OSM) database and I recommend using one of the OSM based map sources such as Gaia Topo when using the Snap-to-Trail feature to create a route.

    Next time you have an issue with the Snap-to-Trail feature, please contact us by clicking 'Submit a Request' so we can take a look and identify the issue.

    Also, since the OSM database is crowd-sourced, you can also follow the steps in this post to make correction to the database: Map Your World with OpenStreetMap
