Snapping Lines

My Gaia GPS app keeps snapping a long line between wherever I am currently at on my hike to my starting point as an "actual distance walked." It makes tracking my trail useless, because I will have walked "five miles" due to it continuously snapping back to the starting location, when in reality, I have only gone 1/2 mile. Does anyone have a fix for this?

  What is your device? It sounds like this could be related to GPS problems.
