New Mobile Sync function on folder moves items from folder to top level of "Saved" items
Something is awry with the new Mobile Sync enable, or I'm not understanding this. All my tracks, routes and waypoints are organized into folders. So I try out the new Mobile Sync feature to turn off a folder containing a bunch of tracks and waypoints from an old adventure. On the GaiaGPS.com desktop version (using MS-Edge), log in and see all my folders of saved items. Select a folder, then turn off "Mobile Sync". Wait a few minutes, then open GaiaGPS app on iPhone. Click on Settings, then Account, then tap Last Sync to manually sync now. Now tap on Saved to go to all saved items on phone. Observe the folder selected above is no longer on app, but all the items (tracks, waypoints, etc) that were in that folder are now in the top level of Saved items. This is not what I expected, according to Gaia's own description, which says, "You can also choose to sync an entire folder to mobile (or not). Toggling Mobile Sync on/off for a folder will change the status for ALL items in a folder. ".
P.S. Updated app to Version 2024.12 and problem persists.

Exact same issue. I had thousands of items - all organized within folders - everything filed. Did a sync one day and immediately noticed something was wrong. Hundreds of items suddenly showing up in the root / All. This is without toggling any new Mobile Sync options. Everything default (On I guess?). I spent several hours over a few days re-organizing all of my items on the desktop / web app. Once I had everything filed again, I toggled all of my folders Mobile Sync settings to OFF except for one folder for testing. I cleared the app data on my Android device, logged in and waited for a sync. As soon as the initial sync happed... the majority of the items in that folder were unfiled and placed on the root. I logged into the web again to confirm and sure enough... hundreds of unfiled items. Luckily the "blast radius" was only synced to my one test folder... but unfortunately that folder is critical, so now I have to re-organize again.
I'd be glad to help the team with any troubleshooting.1 -
I've been experiencing similar folder syncing issues with Gaia. So frustrating when your carefully organized routes get scattered! While troubleshooting, I found Poly-Track to be a helpful alternative for some of my GPS tracking needs. It's been more reliable with folder organization lately. Hope Gaia fixes this soon - proper organization is essential when planning outdoor adventures.

Similar problems with folder syncing have been plaguing Gaia for me. When your meticulously planned routes become disorganized, it may be really stressful! I discovered a useful substitute for some of my GPS tracking requirements while I was troubleshooting. Recently, it has become more dependable when it comes to organizing folders. Thanks for bringing this to Gaia's attention; being well-organized is key when preparing for outdoor trips.

Have you experienced similar issues with the Mobile Sync feature where disabling sync for a folder does not prevent its contents from appearing in the top-level Saved items? What steps did you take to resolve it, or is there a workaround you found effective? @snow road

It seems that the Mobile Sync feature is not working as described, causing confusion with the organization of data in the app. @retro bowl college

It sounds like there’s some confusion with how the Mobile Sync feature is handling folders and their contents. Based on your experience, instead of hiding everything, it just moves the items up a level when sync is off. That definitely doesn’t match Gaia’s description! Maybe this is a bug, or there’s something missed in the update. Reminds me a bit of unexpected outcomes in games like Run 3 , where things don't always go as planned!

Thanks for explaining this—I've been seeing the same issue and thought I was doing something wrong. Definitely not the expected behavior. Hope Gaia addresses this in a future update! @basketball stars
