  Its part of the bug in Gaia where it is not really suitable for routing.
  It works better in the USA where you can use other peoples published tracks (turn that layer on), but in reality the GAIA routing feature does not work in practice.
  
  GAIA has not worked on this fundamental problem for many years and does not seem to take it seriously as a problem.
  
  IF GAIA was to fix it then their product would be one of the better apps, but without it basically it does not work for people wanting to create routes (that they have not yet travelled).
