Route planning creates its own garbage and adds it to my route
Hi, I am new to GAIA and that is probably part of the problem. I plan on doing some Adventure Motorcycle riding and some people have recommended GAIA instead of buying a hardware device like a Garmin.
What is freaking me out is, I try to create a route, and it changes and adds to my route. Instead of ending up with my carefully planned route, I get badly mangled garbage. I get directions to places I never wanted to go.
This can't be how the application is intended to work. There must be a "feature" that needs to be turned off to stop this behavior but I have been unsuccessful in finding it so far.
I appreciate your help. Thank you

An update. I tried setting a way point at every intersection. This worked but was pretty messy. This didn't seem right to me. So I tried it again, only setting the start and end points as way points. Strangely, it worked this time. I do not know why the application went haywire last time but it seems to be working now.

Sometimes GAIA tries to route my paths a shorter path so I have to force it to go my route with some additional waypoints. I tend to add them in major intersections. I also find when using the app, it sometimes helps me see when an intersection is coming up because I forced a point at that intersection.

Thanks TakeNoSpace, I will keep that in mind making routes.

I frequently plan cycling routes and this scenario is pretty typical of every GPS route planner I've used. If you think about it, most trips have numerous options, so the software can only "guess" until you give it hints along the way. Every intersection is usually overkill, however.
