Android spikes still an issue
I have a Samsung Galaxy S22+ - I'm getting occasional spikes in the trail recording - I've done all the recommended phone settings around this issue to no avail - it sucks that there is no way to directly contact customer service - is this an app issue or Samsung? ... after two years of premium use is it time for a new (more compatible) app?

I use iOS but I am getting the spikes, assuming you mean random lines in my tracks. I have an outstanding ticket with the team - I am able to submit via the all under the Settings->Help menu. Right now, this is the recommendation to fix the spikes after they happen:
If you need to more extensively edit a track or route, I recommend you export your track as a GPX file and use an editing program like Adze or GPX Editor to make changes to your track.

I'm getting the same on my Nokia G21. Also whenever I open the app, it opens with the screen upside down. It corrects itself after a few seconds, but it's really annoying. I'm using the on-board GPS array, not synced to a Garmin or anything.

I returned a Samsung A15 after having horrible spiking problems. Hours of research and trying different settings didn't help. Now I have an A35 [with a Samsung rather than Mediatek chipset] which still has problems with spikes, though much smaller. It will show where I am, more or less, but with all the little spikes adds about 30% distance to often hiked trails. Finally I saw this final line on a post by Gaia help https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035349774-Android-Track-recording-inaccurate-or-has-spikes "As a workaround, some users have reported that using another mapping app simultaneously while tracking resolves this issue." It worked! Now I record tracks in a free version of CalTopo while recording tracks in GAIA. No spikes, except when not moving for a few minutes. Also go to Settings/Location/Location services. Turn on Location Accuracy, turn off WiFi scanning and bluetooth scanning.
