New interface add waypoint issues
-
The new interface is very difficult to use:
1. add waypoint does not put it at the current GPS location (old interface "add waypoint my location" option)
2. Must delete all text (wpt ,date ,time etc) to enter new (old interface field was blank and ready for new text)
3. No way to immediately save the waypoint - new interface asks for folders, etc.
4. keyboard is much too small

I second this as this is an important feature when out hiking and you need to mark a spot. Now you have to zoom in and mess around until you have the waypoint in the right spot. Absolute waste of time when the last version of GAIA had this.

Thanks Steve I know about that. :-) I'm always one-handed... It takes a minimum 7 clicks to add a point (seriously): center map, + sign, Waypoint icon, try one handed to get to the start of the pre-filled timestamp or erase it (even more clicks), voice to text icon, close keyboard to expose the SAVE button, SAVE.
I'm always in the woods, one handed, in an awkward place. I map lost historical sites. Accurate notes are the crux of the bushwhack. -
I agree with fkennedy. I am also a Kennedy and have major problems with the new add waypoint, and I started this thread. The most annoying is the pre-filled date/time stamp, and then the multiple steps to save. I am a wetland scientist and need a quick way to enter delineation points in the field. Period.

Wow Jim yes! (I'm Frank btw) I wonder if you were also also ViewRanger fan before it was trashed? It was a bear but it sure could map stuff. Gaia had the nearest features, particularly navigating to off-grid imported points and tracks then recording everything found on that trek.
I haven't looked in a while for something better than Gaia that still has the off-grid I/O capabilities. I'll bet Gaia keeps dumbing down and eventually eliminates these features until it's another AllTrails.
One wrong waypoint location can ruin hours of trekking. But the timestamp text box is also a massive PITA, especially when you try to click to the start of the pre-filled text but get the icon selector again and again and again and again and... Ahrrrrrgh! Sometimes I say eff it to the timestamp and just start talking, rename it later in Google Earth.
I also wish the >< mode direction of travel up would stick through touching. You can't zoom out to see where you are without reverting to the confusing spinning arrow.
I guess if too few people "me too" feature requests they just never happen. I've already made all of these things. It's disappointing that such fundamental usability ideas never make it into versions.
