Route zoom while changing elevation

I'm a newbie to GAIA so hopefully this is something easy. I purchased the Premium level. So today I created a route on my PC and saved then opened it on my Android tablet and downloaded the offline map for the route. It all worked well except as I climbed in elevation the map did not stay at a set zoom level but instead acted as if I was an airplane crashing into the mountain...I had to manually zoom out on the way up. Is this a setting or?
