Using Gaia with Garmin 66i
Hello all,
For several years, I have successfully used my Gaia Maps with my Garmin InReach Explorer+ GPS device. While the way I used my device may seem clunky (and there's probably an easier way) here's what I did:
Turn GPS unit on
On my iPad Mini (WiFi only) started the Garmin Earthmate App then pressed "Tracking" and "Start"
Opened up Gaia GPS on my iPad Mini and recorded the track.
This worked perfectly well for years - the tracking was accurate (on Gaia) and never had any issues.
This week I bought a Garmin 66i (with InReach technology and the SOS button). This device is NOT supported in Earthmate it seems. As an alternative, I have paired the GPS with my iPad Mini and used the Garmin Explorer app, turned-on tracking however the tracking is very sporadic and disjointed. I then added in connecting to Garmin Connect then to Explore. The map does show my route (sort of) but in 10-minute segments (versus the 1-minute from Earthmate).
I guess I'm at a bit of a loss as to the workflow or way(s) to get the mapping/tracking to mimic the Explorer+ device. Am I missing something or not doing something right? Using the same plan and all of that with Garmin.
Would appreciate any insight.
Many thanks!
