Apple Watch app no longer works with iPhone App
AnsweredCustomer since 2016. What happened to the apple watch app? It can no longer be used in conjunction with an active recording on the iphone. Did I miss a news update? Or do I have the wrong app on my apple watch now? Now the watch app seems to be a poorly designed fitness app with a long list of activities that I don't do that I have to scroll through? And anybody who has an apple watch has a built-in activity app that is much better.
Typical Use Case - substitute snoeshowing, x-country skiing, hunting, etc. for hiking.. Start recording a hike. While hiking, use watch to assess distance, speed, etc. When reach certain areas, use phone to consult map to determine correct direction. Do you seriously think people will use their watch to view a map for backcountry navigation instead of using their iPhone?
So is there still the "good" apple watch app that I can download that works with GaiaGPS on the iphone like it should?

Hey @offtraildog,
The Gaia GPS Watch app was updated in March 2021. Learn about the updates here: https://blog.gaiagps.com/gaia-gps-brings-backcountry-navigation-to-your-apple-watch/
The new Watch app is designed as a stand-alone application and does not require carrying the iPhone to function. Because of this, you cannot start a track on your phone and then monitor/control it on your Watch.
You can still use the Watch app to record tracks and check your stats at a glance. Here's how: Gaia GPS on Apple Watch
I know it's not quite the same as it was before, and I'm sorry for the frustration. We are tracking requests to bring back this feature and I've added yours to the list.
