Tags for searching and sorting my data
Not plannedI love Gaia. But man, information management and organization is seriously limited. I have over 5,000 waypoints in Gaia. When I'm researching a trip, I need metadata about my waypoints and routes to help me decide where I'm going. Folders don't cut it. Icons are not useful.
I want to be able to add these kinds of meta data to my waypoints:
- campsite
- favorite!
- enough cell data to work remotely
- candidate for trip X
- already visited
- next to water
- firewood available nearby
- rough road, requires high clearance
- rough road, requires short wheelbase
- room for group camping
And then I want to search based on those tags:
"Show me all of my waypoints that are campsites in Oregon that are favorited and have enough cell data for me to work remotely and have room for multiple rigs."
"Show me all of my routes inside of Death Valley National Park that require 4x4 high clearance."
"Show me all of my waypoints that are campsites that I visited in 2019."

Hi @andersen.jason,
This is an interesting idea. We don't have plans for anything like this at the moment, but I'll create an internal request for this to keep track.
Thanks for sharing.Comment actions -
A little late on my response here, @ExGaiaAdmirer, but the web search functionality for saved items seems to be limited to the titles of said items (be they routes, waypoints, etc.). In other words, any notes added to a waypoint or route is not included in the search parameters.
But I'm mostly here to say how much I would LOVE a tagging system. I really enjoy hiking barefoot when the weather is amenable, but certain trails are just not conducive to it. A simple tag system would make it easy to search through my favorite routes on a sunny day to find the right place to kick my shoes off.
