I know this feature is being worked on and will hopefully see the light of day soon, but I just wanted to give this feature request a big thumbs up of support. This is probably one of my most desired functions.

I want to echo this request for the web app to be able to turn on/off visibility of individual folders. Selecting visibility on the folder level seems so rudimentary to me that I was initially in disbelief the feature doesn't exist on the web app. It's absence is inexplicable and makes managing/working with large track and waypoint collections a hair pulling experience.

    Hey there,

This is being worked on right now as part of our major folder refactoring and website sidebar updates. I don't have an ETA, but keep an eye on the website. We're making consistent improvements.

When this is all said and done, you will be able to show/hide folders (and their contents) on the web with a click.

This is a feature that is many years in the making.  Please don't hold your breath .  As an old Earthmate user and Garmin basecamp user I moved over to Gaia.  This feature and the lack of virtual folders is its only weaknesses.  I would love to see Gaia use a folder system that will allow you to create virtual folders that can be turned off and on for visibility.  The current folder system is horrid and poorly implemented.

    Hello,

Folders are now available in the Saved Items sidebar! And with the completion of this project it's now possible to turn off the visibility of any item or group of items (including folders) in the browser.

We've implemented a lot of the features you've been asking for. Here are some highlights:

    • Nested folders - Items filed to folders are no longer shown at the root level. Opening a folder takes you to a view of just the items in that folder. This functionality should feel familiar to anyone who has used folders in Windows Explorer or Finder.
    • Create, edit, and delete folders from the sidebar.
    • Filter the sidebar by Folders
    • Adds a button to “Create a new item” to the saved items sidebar. Allows you to create new items while inside a folder.
    • Adds the ability to file items and folders to folders. Adds an interface that allows you to either select a recently used folder, create a new folder, or browse your existing folders.
    • Adds the ability to change the visibility of folders

There are a few limitations with folders at the movement:

    • Folders shared with you will not be displayed below the root level.
    • From the sidebar, folder privacy can be toggled between public and private, but there is not a way to share or view the details of folders just yet.
    • If an item is filed to a folder, that folder is not displayed when viewing the item’s details in the sidebar.

We are continuing to work on this and we have a few follow-ups already planned:

    • Address the current limitations
    • Allow an item to be filed to a folder from its details sidebar
    • Improve support for shared folders

You can read more about working with folders in the sidebar here.
