on/off toggle switch for layers

Instead of turning a layer off and it disappearing into the layers catalog it would be much handier if you could just toggle the layer on and off. This would allow the ability to toggle the layer on & off in order to see certain details and then go back to editing a track or whatever you are doing. Just a thought.

  That is definitely a great idea. And might make some of the folks who have asked for layer 'profiles' happy.

  I will very often turn the opacity all the way down to do something similar but toggle would be a better solution.
