Implications of Trailforks?

I just noticed that Outside is trying to get us to do an upgrade that includes Trailforks. What is Trailforks, how is it different from GaiaGPS, and is Outside positioning itself to drop one of the apps? Companies don't usually support multiple apps with a large overlap of features/users.
