    Hi,

Yes, you can get custom waypoints online or in the iOS app with a Membership.

Thanks, thought that might be the case. I have heard the selection of custom icons is not good. Is it or will it be possible, upload your own icons? Liking the GaiaTopo layer!

It looks like there are better icons in GaiaPro for Android, are they available in the standard app or only pro. Can they be used in the GaiaGPS account and printed out on maps. If not, I will likely cancel my subscription to GaiaGPS.com and only use the app. Will use the free Garmin BaseCamp for mapping on my computer and printing.

How do you purchase GaiaPro? Play store only has the standard app for $19.99.

    Hi again,

It isn't possible to upload your own icons, although we'd like to add more options eventually (no ETA right now).

The icons on Android are the same as the icons available on iOS and gaiagps.com.

For Android, the icons are only available with Pro. I know that's confusing -- I'll send you an email to help you get set up with the right Membership.

I also would like to have the icon selection significantly expanded.  For example, planning a trip it would be nice to have numbers to indicate which camping area on which day of the trip.  Your icons appear to be more in-city than outdoor / off-road.  How about mines, trail intersections, peaks, springs, streams / rivers, ...   You don’t really want to be outdone by Garmin’s Basecamp.  ;-)

AGREED!  I suspect GAIA users are mostly outdoor enthusiasts. How about  better set of icons to use - for instance there is no icon for hiking!  Even better it would be good if there were a red, yellow and green hiking icon so I can add level of difficulty at a glance.

Any ETA on this feature? You suggested it was on the road map but no ETA over a year ago - any developments?

A quick update on this for everyone: A project for waypoint icons is in progress but in the early stages still. We've taken a lot of great suggestions for icons, and submitted them to our designer who is working on them.

Simple numbered icons (maybe 0-20) in distinguishable primary colors would be great.

I agree with the idea of numbered icons, as a simple approach. OTOH, I think that if numbered icons are implemented, it sort of suggests that any icon name should work. I don't actually care HOW they are implemented...I think...but I certainly want custom icons. I can well imagine that many of us who want this have different ideas of what we want. I don't see why there should be a limit...we should be able to add 100 icons. Maybe upload them and have the app add them to an icon database.

I realize that there is a suggestion of grouping them by some sort of high level construct, such as sailing, fishing, etc. Not sure what this would look like on the app, but I can easily manage 200+ ungrouped on the desktop.

A useful middle ground between fully custom and only Gaia-designed would be to support a 1-2 character overlay on the icon. For example a “1”, “2”, etc., that you could use to indicate day of the trip, or number of campsites at the location, etc.
