    Hey everyone,

CarPlay integration is now live! You can get all of Gaia GPS’s outdoor map sources on your vehicle’s dashboard touchscreen. CarPlay offers handsfree navigation from city streets to remote dusty dirt roads far from cell service.

Apple CarPlay is available for iOS on iPhone 5s & newer. Learn more and try it today: https://blog.gaiagps.com/gaia-gps-integrates-apple-carplay/

Need help getting setup? Check out this article: Gaia GPS and Apple Carplay or email support@gaiagps.com.

I second this.  While Apple maps are adequate to navigate paved roads, having GaiaGPS display on the CarPlay screen would be an amazing addition to the general usability of the program.

With the new Jeep JL Wranglers supporting CarPlay, it might be a competitive advantage if your maps support those vehicles vs other topographic maps, too.

Just submitted the same request. New Subaru Outbacks and CrossTreks have Apple CarPLay, and this feature would be absolutely wonderful. Having to use my phone while driving is tough and the display is small. Being able to use the built in display in my car would be fantastic.

I too would love Gaia GPS with car play.   Any chance of this happening soon-ish since Apple is opening up the mapping APIs to third party providers in iOS 12?

    Thanks!

I see many comments for your maps to sync with CarPlay.  We want to add that more people REALLY want this.  I would even pay alittle extra for it if I had to.  It's so hard to Jeep off road and use a cell phone.  We bought the new Jeep JL a few months ago and were so excited about CarPlay until we found out NO ONE has produced a link for using maps off road.  Will be very popular for those who have 4x4's!  Any update on this forum would be nice.  I don't see anyone at GAIA commenting..

Especially now (at least in Canada) That Gaia GPS has partnered with back road map books, it is an indispensable app for backcountry travel and would be infinitely more useful if integrated into your vehicle

That is great news, Ashli!  I believe this will make GaiaGPS the defect standard in offload navigation!

    Hey Everyone,

Adding Apple Car Play is currently in development but I don't have a firm ETA on when it will be available just yet.

If you would like, you can join the Beta Tester program and test out this feature as soon as it's available.

Thanks for the update Ashli!! I am very excited for this feature. Too many screens in my truck, hell, too many screens everywhere. It's a lot easier to use my dash nav screen while driving than trying to manipulate my phone. Gaia GPS is #1!

I spent $7000 extra on my new truck so it would include CarPlay, just in hopes that I would be able to run GaiaGPS on the dash while off-roading. Off roading season is upon us, I am very anxious for this feature!

One idea for the Gaia GPS team would be to create a limited functionality CarPlay app so that they could release it. If we plot the route on our phones and use the car play visualization to track progress, that would totally work. Driving off-road is different to on road with frequent stops to assess location and safety.

This conversation boils down to a difference of interpretation of what a “roadmap” means. Some took that too mean a promised feature and due date, others (including myself) took this to mean they will start development on the feature and subject to reprioritization or roadblocks. It’s pretty simple, and doesn’t really call for negative comments or accusations. I think we all need to remember it’s ok to have a different opinion or interpretation. It’s fine. I think we can all agree that a) CarPlay would be a cool feature enhancement and hope it comes someday, b) Gaia offers a great app and service that we all like a lot. 👍🏼

I think it would be sick to see google do something like this. Their sat imagery is unparalleled.
