I have a Chevy Colorado with Apply Carplay and have been setting it up for overlanding. I would VERY much like to have this to be able to project onto my dash screen. I can't wait! This is awesome news....

    Hey Everyone,

Adding Apple Car Play is currently in development but I don't have a firm ETA on when it will be available just yet.

If you would like, you can join the Beta Tester program and test out this feature as soon as it's available.

I spent $7000 extra on my new truck so it would include CarPlay, just in hopes that I would be able to run GaiaGPS on the dash while off-roading. Off roading season is upon us, I am very anxious for this feature!

I'd also like to see this feature get prioritized.

Really, this should be prioritized in the dev pipeline. Not having an ETA is poor app development guys. Come on. You have a HUGE network of off-road and overland enthusiast who use this app. I'd argue we're just as important and as large a group of users as hikers.

"Hey Folks, just wanted to pop in to say this is on our product roadmap for early 2019!"

i've been following this thread for 16 months now. we are a fair bit past early 2019.

    how about a real date?

We're past the first quarter and past early 2019. I think someone's development cycle is behind schedule or just not prioritizing it. Maybe we'll see it by v2 but we're at 1.9.1 now. And if we can't get it by the end of the year, seriously makes me consider looking at the alternatives personally.

Personally I much rather have an App that is ready to be used and has the bugs resolved rather than a firm date and a bad launch. App development takes time to perfect. The team has already said that this is a priority for this year, and like everyone here, I am very much looking forward to the release when it comes!

Except that by keeping it unreleased there is ZERO pressure on them to do anything at all! This feature is LONG overdue and should not be something we have to beg for constantly. I am going to start pressing them with my wallet. Not ONE more renewal until this feature is released.

Hi Gaia! Thanks for staying on this feature. We put a CarPlay compatible head unit in our rig this year because of this announcement that Gaia would be CarPlay compatible sometime in 2019. So we’re happily awaiting this release. Consider this another vote for this cool feature.

It has been 2 months since the last update on Carplay for Gaia GPS and the update mentioned the feature coming in early 2019.  Will this be available soon?

i've been waiting 9 months...... some have been following this thread longer. at this point, on a JL jeep, i have this on a pad on the passenger side of the dash, and the standard gps, which has an astounding level of trails in the mojave basin, is mostly what i use..... truth be told,

Some feedback on the planning would be nice indeed. I can image a couple hickups dealing with in car safety and app handling especially through apple. I’d appreciate an honest/realistic answer on the release schedule.

    Hi everyone,

I wanted to pop in again to update everyone on the progress of this feature. Unfortunately, our original time estimate for the project was miscalculated.  We ran into a few roadblocks that make it unclear on when we'll be able to release it, or whether it will be possible.

CarPlay is something we know a lot of people would like to see and we were excited to take it on as a feature. I am sorry we were not able to meet the original deadline given - for now, we are refraining from giving new timelines on this project as we work through these issues.

If we do push CarPlay through, you can be sure that we'll make a big announcement on blog.gaiagps.com, so please stay tuned

Given the update of yesterday it certainly seems that those of us who want/need a GPS app that works with apple car play for off roading will need to find another solution. Very disappointing.

One idea for the Gaia GPS team would be to create a limited functionality CarPlay app so that they could release it. If we plot the route on our phones and use the car play visualization to track progress, that would totally work. Driving off-road is different to on road with frequent stops to assess location and safety.

I think the support team should probably write a blog post with some more details in it. The official response here is pretty limited and weak. And at this point, a lot of folks are getting frustrated. A blog post might allow the company a better opportunity to explain the challenges and delay.

The most recent response made it seem like they don't care at all about this feature. And have no plans to proceed further with CarPlay integration. That was my take away.

I agree it would be great to hear a more detailed description of the plan and status of the feature. Please provide more information and let users know what to expect.

@accounts - We totally agree.  Definitely seems like they don't care any more, but used to.

Gaia - another update would be great if you are still really pursuing it or not?   We are really, really excited for it to work!

Anyone out there have a better off-road solution?  We bought the 2018JL and wish it had something like Waze or maps that we can use off road.  We have an Elf and iPad, but they don't seem to work as well we have not found a great way to try and mount it, when we'd really just like to use the screen in the jeep!  Thanks.
