I agree, this would be a great feature when off roading.  Would allow me to get rid of the bothersome tablet that I now have to lug around.

I'd love to buy a new head unit that has android auto and use it like r1owner said and have it all in one place. I've considered buying a Chinese android head unit for this, but they're not reliable.

As a hiking-only Gaia user I disagree that this is an important feature, in light of the near-dealbreaker UX/UI problems just in the mobile app.

Well since you're not an android auto user I'm not sure why you're worried about it.  We're not intending to use it on the road.  When I'm on the trails, I have to reference my tablet that is not mounted ideally.   Would be much better if it was running in my head unit instead.

I agree, this would be excellent! The ability to use a Gaia GPS Map in the new Jeep JLs would be fantastic! Right now the only options are Google Maps and Waze

I too would love Gaia GPS with car play.   Any chance of this happening soon-ish since Apple is opening up the mapping APIs to third party providers in iOS 12?

    Thanks!

@sdmeyers it concerns me because it's clear that the dev team has limited resources or time to work on Gaia and I feel as a backpacker that the Gaia team would be better served devoting those resources to fixing basic app functionality.

    Totally understand that.

It's always a balance between making it work better and introducing new features

Support for car play / android auto would help greatly.  This app isn’t only used by back packers.  Most overlanders / off-roaders use it as well.  This would be a great tool!

vitus575, that is so true. I exclusively use Gaia for mapping trails when navigating offroad and overlanding. Thanks for mentioning that.

i would be happy with literally any implementation of this.  a simple mirror of the screen, a live map with record button or next waypoint, the same live overlay with a colored path of your own gpx file... this has the potential to be an even greater app.

It has the 2nd most votes for Android feature.  I hope they are considering it.

for those interested in a hack workaround, i am about to experiment with AAMirror.  Some features require root, but I believe we might be able to make the app at least just display on the Android Auto screen.  That in and of itself would be amazing.  most of my interaction with the app comes when the vehicle is stopped anyhow.

I to would be happy to see GIA on the Apple car play list. I use an IPAD now with a BT GPS device. It would be so much easier and less cluttered to have it on my head unit

Simple mirroring to CarPlay/Android Auto would make Gaia infinitely more useful. Although I purchased Gaia primarily for plotting rock climbing trips (along with Mountain Project) and recording the areas we’ve climbed/camped, Gaia is widely used by overlanders. Gaia via CarPlay/Android Auto would be the perfect match for our new Jeep. Simple mirroring and a record button would suffice!

I so want this feature. I'd hate to invest in tablet mounting gear only to have it rendered obsolete by the much better solution of AA support. Go Gaia!

New Jeep JL Wranglers have the option to have the full Andriod Auto radio setup, which I have and I was bummed that Gaia didn't have the integration.

I would love to see this implemented for Android Auto. I've watched a number of Overland videos where they strongly recommend this app - TrailRecon, Ventur4wd, etc, but they are using it on some kind of mounted tablet in the Jk's. I think as more and more vehicles are integrating with the phone's it totally makes sense from a business perspective to invest the time into developing this, there would be an immediate influx of purchases for those who are in the off-roading community, whether they are using an aftermarket radio or they have a newer system.

    Thanks, for a great app!

They managed to get Apple Car Play support on the roadmap.

Still no love for Android users, and literally no response from Gaia regarding viability, product roadmap, etc, though this is the 2nd most voted feature request for Android.

I probably won't renew my subscription if it's not at least on the roadmap when I'm due for renewal next year.

I agree, Android Auto and Apple  carplay should be a no brainer. Carplay had been promised for early 2019, but it has not been delivered.

I've heard it mentioned here, I too will not be renewing this year if Android Auto doesn't make it on the roadmap.
