Bulk Changing of Track Color
Not plannedI've uploaded many tracks, but they all seem to be random colors. Short of going through each one on my phone (there are hundreds), there should be a way to select multiple tracks and.kml polygons and applying a single color. gaiagps.com would be the easiest way to do this--then sync to the phone.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for posting. I can definitely see how this would be a helpful feature and I too would find this a useful tool when out on the trail.
While this currently isn't on the roadmap, I appreciate everyone's feedback here and wanted to let you know that we are listening.Comment actions -
Hi srwings,
There is not a bulk color change feature on gaiagps.com right now, but feel free to upvote this feature request for better visibility.

I would like a basic preset color palette - so that I can apply consistent color classification to various types of trails. I also have hundreds of tracks/routes uploaded and would like to be able to do a multiple selection (bulk) assignment of color. This would be more easily done on the computer using Gaiagps rather than on my phone as noted by Andy.

The random track color is the only think that is keeping my from getting a Gaia subscription. I have been extensively mapping some backcountry areas, and I need to be able to differentiate at a glance between trails that I have traced from the old USGS and USFS maps, trails that I have proofed (hiked), plausible off-trail routes, wildlife trails, and roads. Having my 100+ routes imported with random colors is going to take hours to set aright.
Please let us bulk edit colors, and while you are at it, let us assign a single default color for routes. -
@me
Thanks for your feedback. Currently, the random colors for imported tracks/routes is just in the app. You can upload GPX and KML files to gaiagps.com and the color for all of the tracks/routes in the file will be set to red. -
This is what Gaia sent me back in Aug 2019

Hi there,
Thanks for writing in.
This year, we've had to make hard decisions on where to focus our resources. At this time, the team is dedicated to their projects at hand.
We continue to monitor the forums for popular new feature ideas and we do see that this is a feature many users would like to see. Your feedback is heard and appreciated.
We'll be sure to update the forums with any progress on this idea.Robyn Martin

And my own version modeled after their response:
This year, we've had to make hard decisions on where to focus our resources. At this time, our team has decided to move all of our mapping over to CalTopo/SARTopo since it offers the capability of organizing our mapping content, using Bulk Ops to change colors, styles and details of whole groups of mapping elements. And now it even offers live team tracking and shared maps.
Gaia is absolutely amazing on the mobile device, nothing can beat it... but due to the integration of the online mapping features of CalTopo/SARTopo and the new CalTopo mobile application... I can no longer justify using Gaia for our work.
I really truly did want Gaia to be the winner in the mapping world, their app is just that good! But unfortunately due to non-responsiveness on issues like this, and because of the continued work and development of other platforms... our team has stopped using Gaia.

@srwings: I haven't tried this myself... but here is an idea:
Export the subset of tracks you want to recolor as a KML. Open the KML file in a text editor and do a find and replace from the old color code to the new color code. Re-import the KML... do the colors show up?
If I recall correctly GPX doesn't store colors, but KML does. GeoJSON does too I believe. I use GeoJSON with CalTopo/SARTopo because it maintains all of the colors, icons, line types, folders, etc., so it seems to embed the most amount of data in the export.

I dont know how you guys have your maps set up, but i figured out a way to up load tracks each time without needing to redo the color of each track each time, this is how the guys in the off road community seem to do it,
1. record your track on phone or tablet device app,
2. upload your track to your laptop, and open in your desired editing program/software
3. overlay your just recorded track, onto a master map,
4. edit your just recorded track
5. unlayer your master map
6. "save" only, your just recorded edited track,
7. export that just edited tracked onto your phone or tablet app under "tracks"
8. go to folders and open your desired "folder" you want that track to be part of,
9. add that "track" to desired "folder"
10. change color of that single track
11. go back to your laptop over lay your master map, and then resave with your new track addedrepeat each time you add a new track

Thanks GaryAniska.
The point we are trying to make is that when you do that initial bulk upload of tracks regardless of what color they've been set to in whatever the source software you exported from, Gaia will randomize the colors which means you have to manually set them to whatever you whatever color you want them to be. It is true that you only have to set the colors once but that's a huge effort if you are importing 300-500 tracks at once. This is a known issue with Gaia that for whatever reason they will not address.
Glad you mentioned the off-road community because its what I do- explore hundreds and hundreds of miles of West Virginia unmaintained roads. I use color coding to indicate road quality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMI7APVug2U
