    When i try doing this at gaiagps.com I don't see the area selected/highlighted.  For example I searched for Mojave Desert.  It finds the Mojave area, but I don't see the area highlighted

    Entering “Mojave National Preserve” in the search bar will highlight the entire Mojave Desert and activate the Send to App feature. Sorry for the confusion.

    Nathan,

    Do you know what the preset zoom levels are when using the send to app function?

    Another question, when selecting an area such as the Mojave the screen for certain maps doesn't give you an estimate of the download size.   it indicates N gigabyte

    Is there any way for you guys to allow the downloading of a complete county using this feature?  I think that would be super helpful for people.

    It looks like it allows the download of the City of Los Angeles, however in looking at the size of the files I am skeptical it is the whole city of LA.  The files look too small.

    The preset zoom levels when using the Send to App feature are:

    • Low = max zoom of 13
    • Medium = max zoom of 15
    • High = max zoom of 16

    Sorry, the tile counts for offline maps are just available in the app and can be found on the details page for your offline map.

    Currently, the Send to App feature is just available for trails, parks, forests, or areas. The area highlighted for Los Angeles is a public area that has been labeled as “City of Los Angeles”.

    We badly need the upgrade to GaiaGPS so we can create vectorized maps using a browser interface and upload them to our smart phones.

    We also need larger maps to upload as the areas are very small.

    Just to add a voice, this app is already my favorite and I have tried many for hunting, hiking, and off-road motorcycling so I am a fan!  However the feature to choose the proper layers, and identify/name my downloads then send to my Android phone would be the absolute best feature IMHO to move Gaia to a whole new level.  Come on...don't you want the revenue of new users?  Feature set creates sales!

    It's coming.

    FYI, we have a big map overhaul project in the works, and this feature request will be the cherry on top.

    You guys might like to give the new map a spin, we have a live alpha going as we develop it: https://www.gaiagps.com/map2/

    Still a couple more months until this does everything the old map does and more, but you can see the vector maps are pretty sweet!

    The new map looks awesome Andrew. I'm very excited to implement this more into our work. Thanks for getting this going.

    @Andrew,

    Thank you for the good news!
    Patiently waiting for the ability to manage download areas via web interface for over two years now.

    Is the new map available for download to tablets and ipads yet?  If not is there an ETA

    @rescuejg The map you see at gaiagps.com/map2 is the same as Gaia Topo on iPhone/iPad. We're in the middle of making gaiagps.com/map and the Android app use the same "vector" technology, but iOS is already there.

    FYI, the advantages of vector maps are:

    * smaller to download

    * when you zoom in/out the labels stay a consistent size

    * when you rotate the map, the labels stay right side up

    * we can merge the vector base map, with vector overlays like Public Land, and keep the labels on top

    * when you increase the text size in your phone Settings, the labels on the map get bigger

    Also FYI, vector means the app downloads the data for the map, but then draws the map on the phone. Whereas a "raster" map is turned into a flat image before it gets sent down to the device, and all the device can do is scale up or down the entire image. With our vector maps and overlays (like Gaia Topo), you'll see more features being added to the map as you zoom in, but with a map like USGS Topo only the scale changes, not the detail.

    YES!!! Thank goodness this is coming. It's so hard to DL maps on a phone in bits and pieces. Another problem I have is not seeing where the maps lines are that I've already downloaded.

    Do we have an ETA when the map creation export to phone is going to roll out?

    Still working on it, I don't have an updated ETA. The "map2" project is taking quite a long time, but doing a download from the new web map is squarely on the roadmap. We're also in the middle of hiring several software engineers, two of whom are slated to work on the website, so we should have a much faster pace in 2019.
