    Hi John,

Thanks for reaching out about this.  GeoPDF import is on the roadmap for this year, but I don't have an exact timeline on when it will be released.

I also REALLY could use this feature. I have several GeoPDF maps I use on a regular basis. Currently I have to use Avenza, which now requires subscription to import maps. If I was able to use GeoPDF in Gaia, it would be my one stop app!!

Additionally, the National Map US Topo map has moved toward using georeferenced PDFs. This is from their Fact Sheet:

"In 2017, the US Topo map production system was redesigned and modernized to facilitate long-term goals for more efficient production and for continued product improvements. The new system produces maps in a format that uses a georeferencing mechanism that is ISO 32000 compliant."

My understanding is that basically means 'georeferenced PDF'.

Sounds like some important map sources are moving that direction. I had never even heard of them before walshfamily's initial post. Exciting that you guys are talking about implementing them.

same here. I have a pdf map that I would like to import. I'm told it works in Avenza but I would like to be able to import this map into gaiagps and use it as a base map.

It's time to give this thread a bump. In forestry consulting, the ability to create your own geopdf and use it as your base map, akin to Avenza Maps, is  must. I use GAIA for all of my woods work EXCEPT for verification of base map accuracy, for which I need to use Avenza. Adding an import feature for geopdf/geotiff would allow GAIA to satisfy all of the needs of professional foresters. Sure, it's not a huge industry, but GAIA would have a near monopoly.  Thanks-

Have used Avenza exclusively and wanted to trial Gaia. Now that I have Gaia I see no way to import these geo-referenced PDFs which is the most important function of either app for me. Back to Avenza until Gaia adopts this function.

First Responders would also benefit greatly by using geo-referenced PDF maps. I've also used Avenza for this, but think Gaia is a better product. If pdfs were added, this would be a slam dunk!

Likewise. The entire NSW and ACT Rural Fire Service uses Avenza Maps for PDF maps and the new version costs $43 “A YEAR” ffs to load PDF maps.

Thats about 80k users at least.

Please add PDF support and take my money. Once off, not some lame ass subscription.

Also NSW released all their 1:25k maps as free GeoPDFs so a whole stack of people are looking for a mapping app.

Add UTM nav coords, it’s whats used in Australian topo maps

    Gaia development folks,

I agree that having this feature would be terrific. Your map layers work pretty well for people in the United States, but in other countries such as Australia mentioned above, it might convert a lot of new users.

Also, you could take a lot of the market from Avenza, which is far as I can tell is about the only thing that app has going for it.

I have used 4-5 different route planning/track recording apps over the past 5 years.  I use Avenza because of the PDF capability, but I believe the route planning tools are far better in Gaia.  I would completely convert to Gaia if they would add a simple import function for custom geo-referenced PDF maps.  I would like to grab many of the available BLM maps in PDF form, but have postponed doing it because of the time involved.  Let's go Gaia and get this implemented!

Thanks Nathan for discussing and considering this much needed option.

Gaia is a great hiking GPS app, and this feature would make it even better.

It'd be great to get a status on this, this feature would also be useful to me professionally and personally!  Thanks.

Listen to what is being said to you. Avenza has some hook up with USGS and or USFS and cornered us into using geopdf which as of now only the Avenza app will do. It is a good format but no gps receivers will handle it, not even Garmin. Well that's just great. The official you can only  go here in the NF document can't be used on our gps units. Our tax dollars at work.Be a hero Gaia and solve this.

I really want this feature for search and rescue.  We sometimes need the latest USFS MVUMs just to get to incident base!  Also great for training missions!

This feature is critical for Gaia GPS IMO.  With this, I am free to switch over completely to Gaia from Avenza.

I am just adding my voice to the chorus. This is increasingly becoming a must-have feature. You have created a great piece of software that I use regularly but increasingly with frustration planning trips because of this lacking feature.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone.

We have discussed adding a direct PDF map import option, but I don't have an ETA at this time.

Avenza is eating your lunch. I'd rather not have to use two different nav apps on the same ride.
Let's get those USFS MVUMs in here.

seems like this issue has been around for awhile.  Gaia seems cool, but with the way things seem to be going...PDF maps seem to be a must have.  Gaia claims to have a MVUM layer, but not for all forest...including where I live.  Anyhow...I started looking for alternatives and MapPlus seems pretty functional at first look.  Great user interface.  Heading out the next two days for some better field testing.  Wanted to know if anyone else had tried it or found anything else that is good?

This is ridiculous.... requests for this feature dating back 2 years ago. Why is this not included? Land surveyors could really use the ability to import maps they/others have digitized. I guess I will keep looking for the right tool.....

Gaia support: between Avenza and, more importantly, Caltopos upcoming app that supports and even improves MVUMs you may be losing some business.

Adding my voice to this issue. I can't believe it's been over 3 years, and Gaia hasn't figured out a viable solution to this feature request, which has the highest number of votes. WTF is going on? Get yer shit together, Gaia, or another app will scoop you.
