I, too, have been waiting for this feature for years.

I’m purely speculating here, and I welcome Gaia to provide their own explanation, but this is why I suspect this feature keeps getting punted:

I wonder how many of us who want this feature for motorized recreation. I maintain many map layers and waypoints for the entire state of Utah on my iPad because I head out in my truck every weekend and rarely know where I will end up. Those who are traveling faster, one can might assume, try to manage much larger datasets than those who travel on foot.

I don’t read many comms from Gaia, but I’ve sensed a certain reluctance to embrace the motorized recreation community - you can’t ignore the market opportunity, but that doesn’t mean Gaia embraces it culturally. Their roots are in human-powered recreation, and there can be a strong bias against motorheads. Any one who has spent time in both worlds can attest to that.

Or, perhaps it’s purely a market driven decision that does’t survive cost/benefit analysis. Perhaps Gaia will offer us more detail.

Todd.. I’m on the backpacking side of the house and it’s definitely wanted here for the volume of the waypoints we deal with. My personal belief is Gaia focused on enhancements that would bring in more users ($$$) while not prioritizing basic functionality enhancements.

Icons are not showing up on the waypoint summary page in the icon column. Therefore I cannot update the icons. I'm using Google Chrome.

Looking at the script, there are numerous indications that variables or items are not defined.

There may be an issue with version 3.1. I can't install the previous versions.

The amount of mouse clicks it takes just to change a single icon is painful.  The ability to change multiple icons at the same time is just basic functionality.  Sad to see it has been requested and ignored for so many years.

    macOS 11.5 / Safari 14.1.2 / Userscripts 3.3.1 extension.

Sorry to report that for me the script does not work. I have several pages of waypoints. If on any one of these pages – say page 2 – I select some waypoints – say positions 4, 5, and 7 – and execute the script, the waypoint on these positions will change their icons not only on the page I ran the script on but on each and every page.

Update for any of you that are newer users to Gaia - this is a subset of a feature set that has been requested by users for years :(  Frankly, don't hold your breath on this feature coming soon in the foreseeable future.  In all fairness, other products like Background Navigator are much better for custom icons or bulk icon editing , but the tradeoff is you loose the nice features of Gaia so it's always a balance between choosing between the two :)

    Are you kidding me?

Just signed up for Gaia premium to find out that the satellite image quality was recently reduced to an unusable level, and now finding out I can't bulk edit my waypoint icons in groups rather manually modifying hundreds of icons? I feel ripped off.

Hi Melanie, why doesn't GAIA add this feature?  It's clearly something that your customers want.  We've been asking for it for several years.  You're willing to lose customers over a feature that should've been added from the start?  Not to mention that several of your competitors offer this feature.  You bombard us with emails about new maps that many people will never use, but we all use icons and waypoints.  Of the dozens of maps provided, I use about 5 of them.  Let's add something that customers actually want and need.  Great app but this feature is absolutely needed to make it more user friendly.  I, like many others on this post, manage several hundred waypoints and not being able to effectively manage the icons is a real pain.

    Well said!

It is SO sad that for a few years now, Gaia has essentially said this is not on their road map, encouraged us to vote this request up and then simply gone silent, I was flabbergasted that the only response from Gaia was about their refund policy.

    Mind blowing!!!

I suspected that the emphasis on adding features/layers was to make Gaia ready for an acquisition, which has occurred.

Sadly, the acquisition hasn’t made any difference …

This is a core feature - for the only responses to either be this is not on our roadmap or that refunds are available is SO sad.

I hope we see change or a serious competitor …

Mind blowing answer is correct. Challenge accepted. Refund request submitted. I hope others follow suit.

Yeah, it's pretty sad that they can't give us something this simplistic and useful, which is a basic feature of most mapping software. Even GoogleEarth can do this and it can barely do anything except look pretty. I don't think I've seen a useful improvement from Gaia in years. I'm currently using a couple very useful layers for my research but probably won't need those soon. If this feature hasn't been added to Gaia when it is time to renew my subscription, I will certainly be looking around for better options. Hopefully there actually are some better options out there or they get their act together.

Gaia just added this option on the web version and it seems to work well. So, a great start. One confusing thing is that if you want to select all points in a folder, you first have to select one before the option to select all appears.

One major problem is that the obvious counterpart to this, which is to be able to bulk change the colors of lines and polygons as well, hasn't been implemented yet. Not sure if that requires a separate request but you would think it would be implied in this request.

I am happy to report that testing an import of a large set of polygons that were colored yellow in GoogleEarth actually imported yellow. The last time I tried importing these, each polygon was randomly assigned a color, which was very problematic. So, Gaia has been making some improvements. One big thing Gaia should do is include this information in the importing instructions here: https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052763513-Import-GPX-KML-KMZ-GeoJSON-or-FIT-Files-on-gaiagps-com
If I want to import points, lines, and/or polygons, it would be good to know in the instructions that I can color these before import and how.

I am going to switch GPS apps because this feature is lacking on the mobile app. This is essential for any fieldwork.

This feature seems to be broken again. Clicking "set icon" does absolutely nothing, no matter if a single POI or several POIs are selected.

Mac OS12.3, current versions of Safari and Firefox.
