Hey everyone, I'm planning a trip to crew a friend who is running a 100 mile race.
It is taking place on forest service land and I was planning my routes between aid stations using the USFS and MVUM layers in GaiaGPS. People who have crewed before said it's easy to get lost out there, lots of closed FS roads, etc.
I thought I was being clever using GaiaGPS (and I am, but...), so I double checked the FS interactive MVUM which shows trails open to OHVs > 50 inches and trails closed to OHVs > 50 inches (my jeep is > 50 inches wide).
Most of the trails I was planning on taking are highlighted red (not to be confused with red on the GaiaGPS MVUM layer), indicating I cannot drive on them. While this complicates my route planning, I also won't be lost trying to find open roads.
tl:dr: I highly suggest using the interactive MVUM map while planning routes on FS roads. The map can be found here:
