I'm considering purchasing the Apple Watch series 2 to accompagny me on hikes. I'm currently using a Garmin VivoActive HR and I'm happy with it but the whole iPhone integration aspect of the Apple Watch is rather enticing.
I have a few questions for those who own it and run Gaia GPS on it during hikes:
1) I notice it can only display certain types of maps, I'm a Premium user specifically to use the SwissTopo map. Does anyone know if this is compatible with the apple watch?
2) As Gaia GPS doesn't track heart rate, calorie count, etc. I usually track those using my garmin and then add the data to the notes of my recorded track. My question is whether the watch can track and record the activity over two apps at the same time? If I start the activity in the stock Apple app and then switch to Gaia where I record and navigate from there, will the stock Apple app continue recording as well?
3) I noticed in a past post that a new app is in developpement, is that still the case? Is there any word on the release date and what new features there might be?
4) In general terms have you found the apple watch to be useful on hikes and has the Gaia app been useful on your watch?
Thank you all for help and happy hiking :)
