Even for a North American, it would be preferable to have the map default to a view that is close to home or close to one's current location.

We recently updated gaiagps.com to automatically show your current region when opening the main map at gaiagps.com/map. If that isn't working for you, can you let me which web browser you are using so I can take a look at what the issue might be?

not working for me.  I'm using Win10 and MS Edge Browser.  At first I thought there was a command to set a start location, but then I rechecked the comment and saw it said it would automatically go back to the correct start location.  So I went to the area I wish to start in in Tennessee, logged out, logged back in, it opened back in South Carolina just as it always had.  (otherwise I've recommended the program to many people who are very excited to learn about it).

When first viewing the main map on gaiagps.com, Gaia GPS will automatically display your current region. If you want to view a trail or a different area, I recommend bookmarking the URL for the trail or area so you can open gaiagps.com directly it.

Default location for me is Phoenix, but I live in Seattle. I suspect GAIA is getting this location from the IP address of my service provider. I've set my default location in Win10 to Seattle, no change.

I'm sorry there is an issue with your default location on gaiagps.com.

Yes, the website is using the IP address of your internet service provider and I recommend bookmarking the following link as a workaround:

Why doesn't this happen when I use maps.google.com?

Can you click the “Submit a Request” option above and let us know your internet service provider and the web browser you are using so we can take a closer look?

Has this been resolved in the year since the last comments? It's somewhat annoying. Websites such as Google Map open to ones current location. When I open gaiagps.com it takes me to Kansas and I live in Northwest Arkansas. I have to scroll on the map to get back home. I use Google Chrome for my browser.

That comment above was when I was at work. Now that I'm home and I got online, the startup screen and map has me where I'm located. Maybe it's because of the work network or something. So it works fine at home and I'm enjoying Gaia.

    Hi there,

The website uses information like your IP address to try and guess your location but sometimes it can be off and network settings can definitely affect this.

Please send a note to support@gaiagps.com if you have any questions - we're happy to help.
