Enable Elevation Profile when Following a Route
CompletedI would like to view progress along the Elevation Profile while following a Route (created or imported), rather than simply when creating one! This would be very helpful in getting an appreciation for the terrain ahead.
I think just enabling viewing of it (as when in Route creation mode) would work.

I keep waiting for this feature. When my hikers want to know what's ahead my guesses are usually bad. My Garmin 62st and its predecessor from 20 years ago had the route's elevation profile showing current location, and it was SO helpful. It doesn't help much that my elevation profile is back at home on my desktop.

New member; haven’t even done a hike with Gaia yet. Elevation tracking is what I’m looking for. Elevation preview would at least be useful. I saw this when creating a route—- then it disappeared!
I guess I’ll do the same. No sense in giving Gaia all of my data, if they won’t even make informed improvements to the app.

Dear lord Gaia team, AllTrais has this feature for more than 5 years. I bought your paid licenses assuming this basic feature would be there. Disappointing to see that it has been requested more than 4 years ago and you haven't implemented it yet. So, again, AllTrails have this feature for more than 5 years.

Wow, really glad to see that I'm not a moron and just couldn't figure out where the button to tap on to view the elevation profile in relation to my current position.
Hey Gaia. EVERY other company out there has this basic functionality. It's really unfortunate that the official answer is "That'd be great, but we aren't doing that."
I hiked a portion of the Art Loeb trail last week and was surprised by the elevation in places. It's hard (for me at least) to look at a topo map and really understand what the elevation change is going to be like. I love being able to create routes in the App (which AllTrails can't do). But I'm going to cancel my membership and switch back to AllTrails simply for this missing feature.

I thought I must be doing something wrong in the Gaia app that I couldn't find this feature while actually hiking. Nope, guess it is just not there! What a glaring oversight. I use it in Alltrails all the time, but have started using Gaia for more functionality in route planning. However, I guess I'm going to have to toggle through two apps while on trail? What a waste of time, and phone battery! I probably won't renew my Gaia based on this.

I am not sure why everyone rates this app as the best, I don’t think I will be renewing either not only due to this elevation profile feature missing but there are numerous other improvements that should have been made over the past few years. GAIA is so close to being a really good app, but for me I honestly think the ones rating it as wonderful don’t really use it in the backcountry and are only using the eye candy features. I also agree that customer service is not there either. I submitted a question/bug 2 weeks ago and haven’t heard a single response. Right now, the only reason I continue to use it is the fact that I can use it on apple carplay (CarPlay is so buggy I end up frustrated and cursing like a sailor) as I am driving around to get me close to trailheads, be able to see non routed terrain etc. Then when I head off cross country, I use other means.

My guess (someone at Gaia can prove me wrong) is that Gaia has been trying to grow their user base outside the hiking, climbing, backpacking and skiing folks. It is much more profitable to promote and develop features that will get them users with large numbers of those that hunt, fish and drive 4x4s off road than it is to develop a feature that will stop them from loosing a fraction of their already captive audience.
I'm a climber, and my guess is that a lot more people hunt in the US than climb. You can tell them how you are cancelling your subscription because it lacks this feature, but they obviously don't care. Now that they are owned by Outside (https://blog.gaiagps.com/outsideplus/) they are even less likely to care given the diversified revenue streams.
As I have said before, I think it's a frustrating feature to be missing. But, I'm not going to hold my breath.

Gaia,
I'm in the market for a one and only mapping app that I can stick with for the next few years of adventures. I really like what your service offers, but this is a deal breaker! Disheartening to see people have requested this for years and you have been silent and unsupportive of this ESSENTIAL feature. Please consider adding this realtime elevation tracking, or I too will have to revoke my premium subscription and take my business elsewhere.
