    Hi all,

Viewing your location along the elevation profile of a route is now available in version 2021.11 of the iOS app.

To access this feature, create a route and then use the Guide Me button:

    Yes, me too.
Following an imported track in unknown alpine terrain is very nice but difficult to estimate what is coming up next.

Yes please! That would be so helpful when bikepacking in hilly terrain.

I usually do trail running following the gpx file. There are some apps which allow you to see in real time all the route and where you are in that moment.
But I also want an app which allow me to see the elevation profile of all the route and where you are in that moment.

Yes - I would love to use this feature.  It needs be be available when off line as well so you can tell where you are, where you need to be and most importantly- the profile..

Other apps are doing this- why not this one?

    Regards

    Alan

Come on now. Need this feature so when people are asking if there are any more big climbs, I can answer!

I asked for this in a different thread nearly a year ago in my preparation for last summers JMT hike.  In addition to displaying the current position on the elevation profile, having waypoints displayed on the profile is also highly desirable.  If campsites / shelters were previously marked with waypoints it then quickly gives you an estimate to the next point in case of unforeseen inclement weather and the associated profile to the quickest point of shelter. This feature would be FAR easier than interpreting TOPO lines in a time of urgency.

AllTrails has this feature and it works beautifully and looks great. I'm not sure that the premium Gaia membership was the best way to spend my hard earned cash.  Hope they can "fix" this situation as I love the app otherwise.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting. I can definitely see how this would be a helpful feature and I too would find this a useful tool when out on the trail.

While this currently isn't on the roadmap, I appreciate the feedback and we are listening.

Several Android apps already have this feature.  It should have already been added.  If GAIA doesn't see the need to in the short near future and not year near future, my renewal will not be happening in the future either.   This is just a lazy excuse to put something off when other apps have it readily available.  GAIA may go the way of some other known brands that failed to keep up with the needs of their customers.

Honestly, it's a shame that GAIA hasn't moved quicker.  They have real user suggestions, input and data at their disposal - yet lethargy in acting on these ideas is bogging them down.  Is it a hiking, hunting, off road, or local dog walking app?  I don't know, there doesn't seem to be a forward direct direction beyond "we're working on it response"...  Still waiting on the Android update for more than a year now - which is not even at parity with the IOS app, let alone new suggestions like this thread.

I agree 100%. Its a great app and I could honestly imagine supporting it through a lifetime of hiking adventures but this is a MUST HAVE.  I currently find myself switching between Gaia and AllTrails in the field just to get access to this feature. That is ridiculous. Especially since this feature is there during route creation! All we need is a button to turn the elevation profile display on/off.  Please get this sorted.  And please don't take this the wrong way... we are telling you this because we LOVE you.

Definitely need this feature. I was very surprised that the All Trails app has it and Gaia does not.

This request thread seems so fundamental to this type of app that I spent a long time searching for these features in GaiaGPS.   Even more mindboggling is that none of this is on the roadmap.  Why??

Agreed... I'm not going to renew my subscription if this is not added. Such a simple and useful feature which the devs seem to have no interest in implementing.

I'm surprised that this feature is not on the roadmap. It seems essential. Is it that difficult to implement?

It is actually really easy to implement... since it’s there already. Needs a bit of ux. And some coding. But the former is also the weakness of Gaia unfortunately :)

An interactive elevation profile is a must-have feature for me. AllTrails and Hiking Project both include this functionality, but they lack the power and map selection of GaiaGPS. I really dislike switching back and forth.

Wow, I was told this was a great navigation app and a must have by a friend.  I signed up for a premium membership and imagine my surprise to find active elevation profiles are not a part of this app!  Yes this is a must have, available offline with current progress and waypoints or I see no need to renew as well.  Please add fast.

Pretty surprising Gaia doesn’t have this. As a software engineer myself this would be trivial to implement.

A few features that would really be helpfully:

    • ability to scroll along the elevation profile and have it match the position on the route and vice verse, scroll along the route and show the matched position on the elevation profile
    • show waypoints or markers on the elevation profile
    • add way points at points along the elevation profile
    • find elevation differences and distance between two points on the profile

Please add this folks.  It would be really helpful to help us gauge difficulty of the trail ahead and planning routes.

I wouldn't worry about renewing. If your experience with this app is like mine (app constantly crashes upon launch & no solution offered by support--hope this doesn't happen to you in the backcountry), you'll be asking for a refund and looking for an alternative.

    C'mon GAIA.

I was on trial this last weekend and compared my favourite (GAIAGPS) with my mate's recently installed gps app. This feature really does need to be included! I would love to see where I am on the elevation profile. I bought a 3-year subscription, and would hate that to go to waste by having to move to another app.

Im not renewing my 2 year subscription. Always recommended this app but I can’t any more. This function is really important.

I also will not be renewing at the end of my subscription. GAIA isn't listening to its users about such a basic function. What decision making took place at GAIA  that decided this will remain a  perrenial crap suggestion not worthy of addressing. Get it done!

4 years old request. Is gaia staff even reading this section?

Anyway, my +1 to these suggestions made by gmetzker

    • ability to scroll along the elevation profile and have it match the position on the route and vice verse, scroll along the route and show the matched position on the elevation profile
    • show waypoints or markers on the elevation profile
    • add way points at points along the elevation profile
    • find elevation differences and distance between two points on the profile

Gaia, I love your app and your podcast, but making the aforementioned service available would be HUGE.

Side note though for everyone else, while you’re on a route, if you edit the route then you can drag along the elevation profile to find your exact location on the map. You cannot see the mileage covered, but merely your relative position within the elevation profile. Just be sure to exit without saving changes every time.

For such a great app and updates on all sorts of obscure ways for it to function, how can an elevation profile be missing while navigating a route?!!  This is a SERIOUS flaw.  Check out the Komoot app for an example of how it could/should be displayed.  A response from you guys would really be useful.  Thanks for everything else since it is really one of the best apps I've ever seen....just trying to get it to be "perfect."

Sorry, it's not on their roadmap, haha. Absolutely ridiculous at this point.

Maybe there are certain types of customers that they don't want to serve? Hikers/Backpackers?

Really, I don't understand this at all.
