Where are the MVUM's for premium users?
In the Edit maps menu, look for the Premium Maps category, and then Overlays.
Hmm..we need the FS road numbers labeled on this
Tap one of the lines :)
Oh, also we just put together a legend for the MVUMs and added it at the bottom of this article: https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003639928
Ok I see tapping now, but we will want to see the FS road numbers all appear at a certain zoom level..
Imagine someone saying meet meet me at the junction of FS 121.4 FS 232.3 ..and having to tap through all the roads individually to find it.
What map are you layering with? I was using Gaia Topo and could see FS roads listed in my area, but you can also layer with USFS Classic or USFS 2016 if the maps are available in the areas that you're viewing.
No layering..just want to use the MVUM. They update them every year.
It shouldn't be too hard I think..just geo reference the USFS MVUM PDF's..
Do the MVUM's include dispersed camping markings? Like this:
The dots on either side of the road indicate where dispersed camping is allowed. Incredibly useful.
No, they don't..looks like they just traced over the 4WD roads
Gaia just needs to scan in and geo-reference the USFS MVUM maps, and then we will be all good.
Plus 1000 for dispersed camping
Is there any update on this? I just started a premium membership, and I was expecting to see dispersed camping markings along the roads with the MVUM. That was the one reason I used MVUM's, and it doesn't seem like the GaiaGPS version has that.
@josham I'm sorry the USFS MVUM overlay does not include the dispersed camping markings and I can definitely refund your Premium Membership. If interested, please click 'Submit a Request' above to contact the support team, and mention this forum post.
PLEASE work on displaying dispersed camping markings into Gaia. One reason I purchased Gaia (and several other Android apps I've tried previously) because you offered MVUM maps. But once I seen it was a Layer and required "premium" membership, it was a bit of a let down as the MVUM maps are free from USFS offices and free to download as a PDF from the web. There is also a ton of other information on them that declared when roads are open to travel also. But now knowing that they don't show dispersed camping is a let down as I want to explore outside my "backyard stomping grounds" into areas a bit further away and enjoy the quiet life of overlanding / boondocking away from the crowded and sometimes loud pay campgrounds. For now i'll just have to print out PDF's - luckily for me i have access to a large format printer.
@rickb Some of the dispersed camping areas are marked on the Gaia Topo layer, like the Gordon Gulch Dispersed Camping Area. I also recommend checking out the USFS 2016 layer for road names. However, we do have an open bug report on updating the USFS MVUM overlay and I have linked this forum for reference.
Please DO add dispersed camping info on the MVUM...as said, extremely useful
