Public API for Automated Uploading of Waypoint Data to gaia.com
For larger numbers of waypoints and for data sets that require frequent updating, a public API to allow automatic processing and uploading of waypoint data to gaia.com would be very helpful. For our particular need we would like to update our data nightly so we have a fresh set of waypoints available on the field units each morning.

Count me in for an API as well. I find that the gaiagps.com site is really a poor substitute for real desktop mapping software for planning complex trips. I'd love it if it was, but I understand that it's not a huge focus (heck, you can't even add a waypoint by lat/lon!).
However, if there was an API, I could write my own tooling to synchronize gaiagps with my local data from other planning software, which would massively improve my workflow. A community of contributed tooling could emerge, reducing the need for the Gaia team to implement everything themselves.

I've been working on this to suit my own needs recently. It might be useful to people on this thread:

Oh yes please please APIs. Inbound APIs require rules and support and ways to protect your servers and limit usage. Outbound calls to IFTTT with a small payload of meta data that could be used to aggregate events on a Google Sheet, for example, would be super neat. And if you offer a limited set of event triggers it shouldn't be too burdensome to your infrastructure.
For example - I complete a track; the milage, gain, time duratin, begin/end points etc all get recorded on a Google Sheet because I configured my GAIA app to call IFTTT when that event is posted to my GAIA cloud storage. Fun!
