The Gaia GPS app will initiate a sync whenever you are online, and you:
- create or modify a Waypoint
- create or modify a Photo
- create or modify a Map
- create, modify, or stop recording a Track
- at regular intervals while recording a Track
However, there may be times when you want to force a sync to bring your files up to date immediately. For instance, if you update something on our website and you want to see the change reflected on your device right away. Or, if you have 2 devices and want to sync changes between them immediately.
Force a Sync
1. Go to the Account section of the Settings menu.
2. Tap "Last Sync" to immediately trigger a sync between your device and gaiagps.com.
When finished, Last Sync should show the time the sync completed.

I have a first gen iPad running IOS 5.1.1 and Gaia v8.1. It will not sync data. I am connected to wifi. When I click on last sync, the iPad spins for about 1 second then stops. No update. I put the app on my phone and it syncs no problem.
Hi Mike,
Those versions are no longer supported. If you have a device with iOS 9 or newer, please click Submit a Request above, and someone from the support team will help you get set up with a newer version.
How long should it take to sync? I'm getting an infinite "in progress" spinning prompt under Last Sync on my iPhone and I can't see a way to stop and re-start the sync process.

I'm sorry there was an issue syncing your device and I noticed you also sent an email. I'll follow up there with more information to troubleshoot this.
