A possible method to successfully download maps on Android
I have found the following method (only) successful to recover Gaia on Android when it fails in saved mode (i.e. downloading and syncing maps stops or maps do not show offline even when they appear to be saved).
WARNING: This is a complete restart. Reloading the app (for me at least) erases all saved content
0. Turn off sync on other devices that already have maps saved (Gaia erased mine when another device synced with maps archived online)
1. Go online and archive all maps
2. uninstall Gaia app on Android
3. Reinstall and log in
4. Sync - there will be no saved maps
5. Un archive ONE map online
6. Resync and wait for install
7. Repeat 4-6 for each map one at a time
This is the only reliable way I have found to load multiple maps from online AND have sync continue to work. Use cases are on a new device or when Gaia stops syncing properly. Actually, I have been able to sync at least two at a time early on before there is too much risk of starting over. However, if I sync multiple maps at one time, sync will then fail and never complete afterward, requiring starting this process over.
Do not use the "check downloads" function, which I have found recently will erase saved maps
This is the result of many debugging hours and countless re-downloads. Hopefully this helps someone. I don't know how long it will last before having to do over again.
