Missing Sweden Topo map layer
The Sweden Topo map layer seems to be missing. I used the map layer last week and removed it as an active layer, but can't find it again (yes, I've tried the search function). Has it been removed?
-
I've noticed that yesterday, most annoying, is it permanently gone. Would be nice with an explanation

Yes, please. That map-layer is critical for me and one of the main reasons to use gaia gps.
Actually, it's quite annoying that the map-layer was simply removed without any warning (unless I missed something).

Still no answer from Gaia?

I have also reported this issue : Sweden Topo and OpenHikingMap Displays as "Map is unavailable" in gaiagps.com (Desktop). However they are still available in the GAIA mobile app. It is not possible to try to remove and reinsert since they are no longer listed in the European or Topo categories either.
Please give some guidance0 -
I just recieved this answer from the Gaia Support
"Hi there,
I'm sorry for the confusion - the Sweden Topo map source has been deprecated and is no longer available. the provider of those maps removed access to third parties.
If you have any questions, please let me know.Jay Crooker

My follow up question would be which their source is? Lantmäteriet or Trafikverket. The maps are still available on other third party map alternatives.
@Gaia, please advice on who your source for the Swedish maps are so that we can contact them directly.

Maybee this from swedish Lantmäteriet:
With the GSD Terrain Map, vector, you get access to, for example, roads, buildings and different types of forest and land. The product will be discontinued on 2022-09-01 and replaced by Topography 50 Download, vector. The last update of the Terrain Map will be made 2022-06-30.The vector format gives you the opportunity to tailor the map to your own business. You can:
- add and link your own information to objects in the map
- integrate the map information into your own system
- show or hide information as needed with using the stratification.
The open map information will be available as follows:
- As downloadable files in the vector formats Shape and Mapinfo
- Via an open API (Geodata data service Topographic web map Display, overview based on the standardized call interface Web Map Service (WMS) developed by OGC, The Open Geospatial Consortium. WMS is also an ISO standard (ISO 19128).
Lets see whats happens in september, but the statement "removed access to third parties" is totally wrong

Hi folks,
thanks for the updates, that's really helpful! Indeed, it looks as if things might improve in September, so let's hold our breaths... We should ping Gaia support (again) if they don't replace the old maps with the new version.

Hi, some info
Topography 50 Download, vector replaces the GSD Terrain Map
31 January 2022The GSD Terrain Map, provided as open data, will be replaced on September 1, 2022 by the new product, Topography 50 Download Vector. The transition will involve extensive changes to the data model and will be delivered in the GeoPackage file format. The previous formats Shape and MapInfo are deleted and replaced with GeoPackage in the new vector product. GeoPackage is a file format that handles several of the limitations of today's delivery format. For example, large geographical areas do not need to be divided into smaller ones, character coding works better and there are fewer files to handle with more intuitive names.
Topography 50 Download, vector becomes nationwide and has a data model that is harmonized with others topographic products. Content-related changes mean, among other things, that new altitude curves and mountain information are included. The product will be provided as open data under license CC0.
The changes affect the data models and will result in attribute names being changed and attributes being both deleted and added. The changes will be described in detail in the upcoming demodata and product description.
Topography 50 Download, vector will be provided via Geotorget beställning .
Schedule
Information about schedule can be found at Ongoing product development of geographic information .

Hi Gaia GPS support
The MAP data for Sweden is now completed with additional mountain layer information available from February 1, 2023. As described above by n.gunnar.m the "Topography 50 Download, vector" has been available since September 1, 2022https://www.lantmateriet.se/en/geodata/geodata-products/geotorget-ordering/
If you need support contact:
geodatasupport@lm.sePlease let me know if you need any assistance in the process to retrieve the information from the Swedish Map authority "Lantmateriet"
I would appreciate your efforts to restore the MAP layer for Sweden so I can continue to recommend GAIA as the number one choice when Hiking in the Laponia area of northern Sweden,Norway and Finland

Indeed. And it would be nice to actually get some feedback from Gaia support on the issue...

I have reported this as a bug to Gaia support today together with a link to this page that litteraly explains how to fix it. My Gaia subscription will not be renewed automatically this time.
Please consider reporting the issue to Gaia support too.

I got an answer from support:
Jay (Gaia GPS)May 23, 2023, 14:59 PDT
Hi there,
Thanks for using Gaia GPS. Sorry for the trouble with the Sweden Topo layer.
This map layer has been removed due to an issue with the source we were using. The maps team is investigating options to restore this layer but unfortunately, I don't have a timeline or an ETA for you.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

Hmmm... at least, they seem to acknowledge the problem. But the reply is still vague, and not very helpful.
@mnmepost: Thanks for reaching out to the support, who seems to blatantly ignore this thread.

I was also linking this thread in my bug report to Gaia and told there was a possible fix in it. I hope they contact Lantmäteriet.

I see two problems. First, Gaia still has the blog post up patting themselves on the back for having Sweden topo maps. Second, there are no Sweden topo maps available through Gaia. Gaia only needs to fix one of these problems.
