Gaia App on Android killed after a long period of pause

It was the first time to use Gaia GPS (I use a Huawei phone with Android 9) as a paid user for my hiking trip in Colorado. Mostly it worked very well but I experienced an annoying issue which I wanted to report here.

I did a couple of hikes that lasted several hours and found that each time the battery went low (40 ~ 50% under the airplane mode), much faster than I expected. So, for a next longer hike, I turned phone's "Power Saving Mode" on to save the battery. When I reached the destination, I paused the tracking and took a long rest, say, for 30 minutes. Then, I tried to resume the tracking for a return hike but Gaia GPS App was not active and I had to relaunch it. So, the tracking was lost. My guess is that the Power Saving Mode killed Gaia GPS App as it hadn't been active (paused) for a long time?

It turned out that the tracking of the out hike was actually saved as "New track" but it was not obvious. I found it later when I was browsing the past tracks. It was good that my track was not completely lost but I had to record the out and back tracks separately.

I experienced this issue twice. Since then, I wouldn't turn "Power Saving Mode" on though I'm not sure if this mode causes the trouble.

My questions here are:

Has anyone experienced a similar problem, that is, Gaia GPS App is terminated unexpectedly while the tracking was paused?

Does Gaia GPS save the current track (paused or keep recording) when it is accidentally (or by mistake) terminated?

Is there a way to connect separate out and back tracks to make it an out-and-back track? Or connect any two or three tracks in general? I don't want to hear someone say "export GPS and use a third party app to merge them".
