Routes get "disconnected" during creation, and don't guide me to completion

I've created a hiking route using Gaia on my desktop PC. This was challenging because after I saved the route, if I zoomed in and viewed it closely, I could see that it disconnected some of the route points, thus making the route incomplete. So I edited the route to make sure that all of the route points were connected into one continuous routes (this was difficult and took a lot of time). Then when I hiked the route using Gaia on my Android phone, it thought the route ended before where I had programmed the route to end. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
