Tracking stops
I've seen similar posts, but none are more recent than two years old. Scenario: I start tracking at the beginning of the hike. I'm often hiking holding my iPhone in my hand and looking at track, and sometimes it just stops. If I catch it soon enough, I can click on the progress indicator and restart it, but sometimes it just ends and saves the track. Why does it do that, and when it does, how can I restart it and append the new track to the old one? I'm using an iPhone 7,
I've noticed on another discussion that this may be related to using the camera; this is not my situation - taking a picture using Gaia doesn't cause the tracking to stop.
Likewise, how can I merge the two tracks created above after the fact, using gaiagps.com?

Been happening to me too on my Galaxy s9. I'll be hiking and tracking my progress, then randomly the tracking will stop and I'll have to restart it (but then there a gap in my track or it'll be in a new file). Pretty annoying especially when it try to figure out how far I've hiked so I can know how much longer to my destination.

Sometimes track recording can be stopped by the device's operating system if it thinks Gaia GPS is using too many resources.
To avoid this we recommend:- While recording, limiting your use of other memory heavy apps like Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, or games
- Also not taking panoramic photos while recording
If you are having trouble taking photos outside the app, you can take photos within the app and have them saved to your iPhoto/Gallery.
1. Change the app settings: Open Gaia GPS app > Settings > Other > toggle on Save to Photo Photo Library or Save Photos to Gallery
2. Take photos in the app:

I am not using any other apps when this happens. In fact, it usually happens when my iPhone is in my pocket (and no, I'm not listening to any music or streaming anything!).

@michael.t.vaughan
We have seen some issues with track recording not happening in the background after iOS updates.
Restarting your phone should resolve that particular issue.
If that does not work, please make sure:
1) Set your Location Service to Always: Gaia GPS isn't locating me. How do I adjust iOS location services?- Go to Settings App > Privacy > Location Services
- Set Gaia GPS access to Never and quit the Settings App
- Then relaunch Settings and turn it back to Always
2) Turn your phone on and off a couple of times. This will delete any GPS errors that may have accumulated in your phone's GPS chip.
3) Make sure your phone is not in "Low Power Mode."- iPhone Settings App > Battery > Low Power Mode = OFF
