How to export a GPX or KML file and have the associated photos go with it?

    Hey Jeff,

Photos exported within KMZ files don't show in the browser version of Google Earth but can be viewed with the downloaded version of Google Earth Pro.

Chris, thanks for getting back to me on this.  So it sounds like KMZ files include the photos themselves.  So, perhaps they can be imported into other GIS applications, perhaps open source?  Unfortunately, I know enough about this topic to be dangerous (not even that much), but am hoping to recruit a volunteer in our organization that might be able to construct a good trail management system back-end for us.  If Gaia GPS can export the waypoints, associated notes, and photos, we'd have a good start -- with someone that knows they're way around these environments.

Exporting photos from ios isn't that helpful to me.  Ideally, I'd have our volunteers go for a walk, identify issues in Gaia, and then be able to export the track with all the associated data.  Keeping the process as frictionless as possible is key, so I don't frustrate the volunteers.

    Hi Jeff,

Expanding on Chris's comment above, here are two ideas that may help you create a system for your volunteers:

    1. Use Gaia GPS as your recording and sharing system.  You can have the volunteers record tracks and photos in the app, and then file their data in a shared folder.  You can then access this shared folder from the website to look at the tracks and photos.  These articles explain how this works:

    2.  Choose KML as the export option for the track. This will include the photos with the track.  It will download as a KMZ (zipped KML file) and you can import this file into Google Earth Pro (desktop version, not web browser version) and view the photos by clicking on the waypoints.

Here's how to export tracks from the app: Export Data as GPX or KML from the iOS app

Thanks Jim....this looks promising.  We're forming a team to tackle this project, and hoping this becomes part of the solution.
