Terrible track and waypoint management?
Gaia needs a much, much, better mechanism for managing tracks and waypoints, particularly on the device. At the moment new tracks and waypoints are saved unassociated with any particular folder. They can only be moved to a folder one at a time. And to make matters worse, you have to select them from the list containing all other waypoints and tracks, regardless of which folder they reside in. And even items already associated with a particular folder appear in the selection list for that folder.
This is just atrociously unfriendly. The user should be able to tell the app which folder it wants to associate new tracks and waypoints with. I should be able to export all tracks and waypoints in a folder with a single action, not one by one. The list goes on and on. At the moment the app will let us delete things en mass but no other batch operation is allowed. This has been the situation for years, and I have repeatedly ranted about it, to no effect :-) Sure, some of this can be done through the web interface, but tying a mobile app to a desktop browser is just anachronistic.
Speaking of the web interface, there does not seem to be a way to hide folders/trips. Everything is displayed all the time, or the mechanism for turning off the display of things is super unintuitive - like most everything else in Gaia :-)
I really, really want to like Gaia, it has some nice features, but the mobile interface is such a usability nightmare that I can't bring myself to pay for a subscription. Am I missing something?

You're correct about hiding/exposing tracks and waypoints.. you can hide ALL waypoints and/or ALL tracks/routes by deselecting each using the Overlays link at the top left of the map screen, but the ability to hide/expose tracks and waypoints independently is limited to the mobile app. I and others had requested this years ago.. I would like to be able hide a route once the corresponding track has been added.. Can't do it....
I'd also like to be able to have waypoints reside in multiple folders. I often use the same trailhead to spring off to different treks and having to create the same trailhead waypoint over and over is silly.

I totally agree with all the various waypoint issues and so many others. I took a leave from gaia and have just recently returned to its use and am very disappointed in the many issues and features still lacking. Several years ago I think it was much better and perhaps better supported. I do not know even if gaia monitors the community message boards. From the looks of the many posting and no comments I doubt they do. :-(

Completely agree with you - it's extremely frustrating. It's been 3 years since this post and nothing has changed. Anybody know of any good alternatives?

CalTopo addresses these issues and has a very detailed topo map at least for North America.
Moderator, I understand that it may be unacceptable to have a rec for a competing product on your forums, please delete if that is the case.

CalTopo you say. I'm in Canada so as long as I could get good satellite imagery and the capability to create tracks and waypoints, I'd be willing to switch over.

Just looked into it, thank you very much! It's a bit pricier but could very well be worth it.
