How do I clear map of other people's route?

I will be working on a route on computer and everything is fine with a nice clear map to start. However after deleting or canceling the route (NOT saving) in order to start over suddenly when I bring up the map again it is populated with other people's routes or tracks and cannot create my own version of a route. Also any saved routes I may have in the map area also shows up and unless I edit I cannot draw a new one over my exiting roue. I have just closed everything down because of so many buggy issues (along with error being displayed when trying to pull some area maps). Very frustrated!
