Phone will not sync data

I have been experiencing the same problems.

I am using an Android phone to record my hikes and I take pictures along the way, that are supposed to show up as Waypoints, with the photos stored in the Gallery, if one choses to.

Long story short, photos do not get stored in the Gallery any more, some of the waypoints are missing on the recorded track when viewed on a computer. In some cases all of them are missing when the recorded track is viewed on the phone.

Syncing is unreliable, some waypoints are missing, sometimes all of them. Photos may show up as Waypoints but the photo itself is not viewable.

Most of the problems started happening after GaiaGPS merged with Outside, which makes me think that the added demands of the Outside platform are overloading the servers.

I am looking at alternatives. Avenza Maps looks like a good one.

I just spent 8 hours deleting everything from years of work. Exporting what I could salvage from a broken gaia website. I imported 1 track at a time and then sync with phone. Sometimes it worked, other times I would have to delete from browser and import until it would sync with phone. After half a day I had a couple hundred Items synced on phone. Took phone to motorcycle to go for a test run. Half the items disappear. Try to sync again more items disappear. After threatening to leave gaia for years and never following through. Sadly I am done.

Resurrecting this ongoing problem.  Purchased a new Android phone.  Opened app and all data was there but not synching new data to the cloud.

Searched Gaia HELP and they advise to log out then back in, but cautions that we should synch our data first(?!).

Tapped LAST SYNCH under SETTINGS but just kept spinning until synch failed.

Looked for REFRESH AUTHENTIFICATION under settings but that no longer exists on version 2025.4.

Decided to bite the bullet and log out then in.  Logging in attempts resulted in repeated “invalid ID token” errors.  Turned out Gaia/Outside didn't like the time my phone was set to.  I have my phone set forced to the right time/zone but the cell tower is on AZ time (1 hour earlier).  Once I set the phone to the (incorrect) AZ time login to Gaia/Outlook worked.

Once logged in the phone synched with the cloud.  Then all of my data disappeared from the map despite sitting in the SAVED section on the phone.

Entered the LAYERS section on the MAP and under MAP OVERLAYS it showed all the right options checked to see waypoints, tracks, etc.  At the bottom under PREMIUM OPTIONS the LAYERED MAPS option had been deselected.  With that selected everything else appeared as “normal” on the map again.

The issue is problems with GAIA are now “normal”.  Between synch issues, folder errors, login challenges, unwanted solicitations, attempts to turn GAIA into another social media platform and technical glitches, GAIA's value prop is diminishing rapidly.

    Legend!

Thank you Fixed my repeated “invalid ID token” errors on the App. Had to set my Time to Automatic time and timezone.. rather than manual.

Could not find any info in Help.

    (:

It remains a mystery as to why Gaia has so many fundamental technical issues, issues that no other mobile apps have.  I'd love to see what metrics their executives use to deem themselves a successful business, because at the user level, it is becoming increasingly less apparent.
