Gaia route stats vastly different after exporting to Google Earth

My saved Gaia route in the Sierra is 83.8 mi and 20,018' ascent but when i export it as kml and import it into Google Earth it is 73.6 mi and 17,248' ascent.  Why is that and which is more accurate?
