Option of “Show on Main Map” not always available from preview map
I believe this to be an interface programming issue.
After using the search panel and selecting an item from the search list a preview map of the location is displayed. Sometimes photos and other information will also be presented with the preview map.
The issue is that when I click on the preview map, sometimes I am not given the pop up window with the options to “Show on Main Map” or “Expand Preview Map”. I’ve noticed this seems to be the case in instances where only the preview map is displayed; I have not observed this if there is a photo along with the preview map. In every case where a photo of the location is displayed with the preview map I have been able to click on the preview map and get that pop up window.
Another issue, possibly related, is that I will lose the icons (Trip, Search, Saved, Settings) at the bottom of that panel which you open by clicking on the 4 arrowed icon in the top left of the main screen interface. When that happens I have to close and reopen the app to get those icons back.
This is on an iPad mini (5th generation) running iOS 16.5.1. The app version is v2023.3.

I am having the same issue but I cannot find a pattern. Some searches automatically show you on the map and you can save a pin, other searches force you to click “show on map” and others don’t give you any option. I wish all search results would allow you to show on map otherwise, the search isn’t helpful if I can’t see what I found.

The pattern I noticed is that this seems to only occur for points that don’t have photos or notes associated with them.
If they do have photos linked to the waypoint, for example a popular trailhead, then the small map does give you the correct popup dialogue window that lets you choose “Show on main map”. I’ve tested this against over 20 waypoints and have never had it fail to work properly if there were photos associated with the waypoint.

Look up “Lake Oswego Hunt Club” (I don’t know what this place is but I saw it looking for something else) - it has a picture, seems to be stored as some “point” given the icon, but you can’t get it to pull up on a map.

I just tried “Lake Oswego Hunt Club” and the waypoint does indeed have a photo associated with it, but that one worked for me fine. I click on the mini map under the photo and get the pop up dialogue window that lets me select show on main map.
So far the only points that fail to provide me with that pop up dialogue window are points that only display with the mini map; they don’t have any photos or other information.

Interesting, I am on an iPhone and I don’t have any mini map. It just has an overview and then it recommends popular hikes in the area. My only options are download, directions, share, and more. More has guide me and Google this. That’s all my options.I’m version 2023.5 which I see you are a different version..

Just popped in to view the thread of my comment that I left 10 months ago. I am currently on GaiaGPS version 2024.4 on my same iPad mini, now at iOS v17.4.1, and I still have the same issue with not being given the option to click on on the mini map displayed from a search result to get a “Show on main map” option as described in my original comment.
Almost a full year later and the same bug still persists. What a sad state of affairs for this app.

Yeah, I wish this option was more consistent. Sometimes I get a 'save to map' but then you have to go and find it. I wish the 'show' and 'save' were both standard options on anything you search for.
