Using two tablets with different storage capacity, syncing maps across devices
AnsweredAfter getting a new tablet with lots more storage I downloaded large muti-layered maps. This created problems with my old tablet since it tried to download the same maps and ran out of space. If I deleted these new maps from old tablet to free up space it would also delete them from the new tablet after syncing. I also found out, if you turn off the sync option in “My Maps” on GaiaCloud site the sync runs endlessly on the tablet that has those maps downloaded.
I found these settings will work to prevent overloading smaller tablet and complete syncing on larger tablet:
- In “Map Downloads” menu on tablets turn off “Auto Resume”
- In “Sync Settings” on tablets turn off “Sync with Gaia Cloud” in Settings/Account. You must now manually sync tablets from the “Last Sync” box.
On GaiaCloud (website) in the “My Maps” screen if the sync option is ON for a particular map, when you try to sync up, the map will attempt to download regardless of the above settings. If there is a downloaded map on the device and the GaiaCloud sync option is OFF, the sync will spin endlessly.
Therefore, before you try to sync the device make sure the GaiaCloud Map sync options are “OFF” for any maps listed which are NOT on the device to prevent downloading unwanted maps and possibly running out of storage.
Make sure GaiaCloud Map sync options are “ON” for all maps listed that have been downloaded to device, so the sync will finish on the device.
Tracks, waypoints etc are not affected by these settings and will sync up to GaiaCloud and across devices. Of course, you must now manually initiate the sync from the devices.
This is unnecessarily complicated in my opinion and can be addressed by an option to not sync maps across devices which will inevitably have different storage capacities. It seems that this could be set with "Auto Resume" switch but it doesn't work that way.

Hey Chris,
You should be able to limit the map downloads to a specific device by following these steps:If that is not working as expected, please contact Support here so we can take a closer look.
