Adirondack Maps
AnsweredI posted this as a question in another post, but figured I would do my own separate post.
Is there a better map available for the Adirondack Region in NY than the Gaia Topo map? It largely omits a lot of trail info and doesn't provide the detail needed to hike the backcountry. For example, last June I canoed to some remote ponds and then portaged to other ponds but not on marked trails. The marked camping sites are not all included and the topo detail Gaia provides is inadequate for traversing on unmarked trails. I have more trips lined up in 2021, so am hoping for some updates. Many, many people visit this region and I am sure Gaia would benefit from further updates. I enjoy the details Nat Geo maps provided for other regions, so those would be ideal for the Adirondacks. Thanks!

Hi @Brookieguy,
Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we will add the Trails Illustrated maps for the Adirondacks due to licensing restrictions.
We are continuing to work with NatGeo to add more areas, but there are no current plans to add that area, I'm sorry about that.
Here is more information about Nat Geo maps in Gaia GPS: National Geographic Trails Illustrated Maps in Gaia GPS
If Gaia Topo isn't working for your needs in the Adirondacks, is there another map that would work? Please let me know a map source and I can submit it to the map team for consideration.
Alternatively, you can import some maps yourself. This article gives instructions for the different ways to import custom map sources:-1
