Maps slow to render this weekend - zoom in/out helped

This weekend I was using the updated app in airplane mode on a route I'm familiar with.  I noticed that when I checked the app (I was tracking a hike), my location arrow and my track displayed, but the rest of the map was a checkerboard pattern.  Zooming in and out, the map would display for a split second when I hit a certain zoom, then turn to checkers again as I kept zooming or zoomed back out.  I've never seen this with Gaia before.  It was also my first time using the new app in the field.  Any ideas?

  Same thing here. It was my first time using Gaia offline so its good to hear that it hasn't always done this. I was using an older ipad and a new iphone. New iphone didn't do it quite as bad but still did it some. I was actually searching for answers to this problem when I ran across your post. Sorry no help other than to just validate your issue

  I'm sorry you had trouble with your offline maps.

  Please make sure that you have version 1.2.3 of the app. If you still have trouble viewing your maps offline with that version, please contact support directly by clicking the Submit a Ticket button at the top of this page.
